DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELF
These days, everyone has a bachelor’s degree. Students must aim to stand out from the crowd with Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) qualification.
The Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) is the flagship qualification offered by The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI), the globally recognized professional body for chartered secretaries and governance professionals in the United Kingdom and worldwide. Founded in 1891 (and incorporated under Royal Charter in 1902), the Institute has a long history of promoting high standards in governance. It now supports a global network of approximately 40,000 members and students across more than 80 countries, with divisions in regions including the UK & Ireland, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong/China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Southern Africa, and others. This extensive reach makes CGI a key authority in the field of corporate governance and company secretarial practice.
The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA), also known as Chartered Secretaries Malaysia, is the premier professional body for company secretaries and governance professionals in Malaysia, promoting good governance and best practices in organisations. Founded in 1959 as an affiliated body to The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) (formerly ICSA), MAICSA is now a recognised Division of CGI globally. Currently, MAICSA has more than 4,200 members (comprising Fellows, Associates and Graduates), 1,800 students and 600 Affiliates on its register.

POST-NOMINAL DESIGNATIONS AND CAREER PROSPECT
Post Nominal Designation:
Upon successful completion of the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) through MAICSA, a student or individual immediately receives GradCG status and is entitled to use the post-nominal GradCG, which is recognised as equivalent to a general degree by MQA.
To achieve full chartered titles as a Chartered Secretary (CS) and Chartered Governance Professional (CGP), the individual must then apply for MAICSA membership, fulfil the required professional experience (typically 3–6 years depending on background), and be elected as an Associate or Fellow. Associate members may use ACIS (CS)(CGP), while Fellows may use FCIS (CS)(CGP). These post-nominals represent dual chartered status and are globally respected across the Chartered Governance Institute divisions.
Career Prospect:
*The CGI Global Passport provides chartered members (e.g., ACIS (CS)(CGP) or FCIS (CS)(CGP)) with automatic transnational recognition across the Chartered Governance Institute’s divisions worldwide (including Singapore, Hong Kong/China, UK/Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Southern Africa, and others). It grants access to local networks, events, CPD, and job opportunities in these regions without separate memberships in most cases.
